 Operations Leader – Sheet Metal Work & Paint

Would you like to be part of growing department where you will be working directly on the Dreadnought and Astute program? We currently have a vacancy for an Operations Leader – Sheet Metal Work and Paint at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As an Operations Leader – Sheet Metal Work and Paint, you will be developing the Sheet Metal and Paint disciplines in the Internal Manufacturing Sheet metal shop and Paint Shop managing internally manufactured parts. You will have the key responsibility for the management, leadership and development of teams and the delivery of work on time and to budget through planning and task allocation.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to hit key milestones and work with various functions in other areas whilst supporting the career development of Team Leaders, Sheetmetal workers, Painters and apprentices, where your career development could move to a Trade Lead Role or Area Delivery Manager.

Your main responsibilities as an Operations Leader – Sheet Metal Work will involve: 

Responsible for the management, leadership and development of teams, delivering the required scopes of work, on time and to budget through effective real time planning and task allocation.

Supporting Team Leaders and teams in their personal development through coaching and mentoring, sharing work experience and support with performance management to ensure all employees are effectively recognised, motivated and engaged in the delivery of their tasks.

Reporting to the Area Manager, assuming "deputy" responsibilities as required for defining, planning, managing and delivering customer and business requirements Safely to Cost and Quality targets.

Carry out real time problem solving to overcome issues as they develop and work in line with the defined issue management / escalation process.

Providing guidance & coaching to Team Leader in support to their personal development and duties.

  Providing support to the team to ensure clarity and completion of tasks and targets through sharing expertise, coaching and the facilitation of appropriate interventions.

Responsible for the quality and standards of output from the team and the achievement of all performance targets.

Drive a culture of continuous improvement throughout the team to enable Operational Excellence.

Carry out real time problem solving to overcome issues as they develop and work in line with the defined issue management / escalation process.

Your skills and qualifications:

Time served trade background

Real time problem solving skills to overcome issues as they develop and work in line with the defined issue management / escalation process

Leadership skills

People management skills, to provide guidance & coaching to Team Leaders in support of their personal development and duties

Significant stakeholder management skills, required to gather information from various sources and get multiple stakeholders to agree to a plan of action

Knowledge or understanding of MS office packages

Sound knowledge of health & safety and knowledge of risk assessments

SAP User – Desirable
